Recognized for their expertise in migration studies, the three partner research units have been organizing this event since 2016 to provide early-career researchers with opportunities for training, scientific exchange and networking around research on human mobility. This summer school takes a comprehensive approach to migration, exploring the journeys and experiences of migrants in places of origin, transit and destination, while encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and the sharing of methods and perspectives on migration processes.
This latest edition explored the links between migration and health, addressing issues such as access to healthcare, inequalities and discrimination in healthcare experiences, as well as mobility related to seeking medical care or working in healthcare professions.
Over the course of a week, around thirty PhD students from different parts of the world engaged with approximately fifteen established researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, history, geography, demography, public health and law. The program featured plenary lectures, small-group workshops, methodological discussions and collective reflections on migration-related issues.
“This Summer School allowed me to broaden my knowledge through a variety of presentations related to my research topic, which focuses on the integration of newly arrived migrants and issues of acculturation and health. Discussions with the speakers, who were very approachable and available, also provided valuable insights and new perspectives for my PhD research. The great atmosphere among the PhD students allowed us to share our work and discover different research projects being conducted internationally on the theme of Health and Migration.”
Charles Tainturier, second-year PhD student at CEPED
